NEW AND UPCOMING
WINTERPILLS (20th ANNIVERSARY EDITION)
When Winterpills released their debut album in the fall of 2005, fans and critics alike scrambled to define what made it one of most significant musical discoveries of the year. Critics met the album with descriptions like "Heavy with moments of sheer beauty," "exquisite vocals," "deeply moving & heartrending," and "as textured as the best indie rock around.” Fans made Winterpills a most requested band on radio stations across the country. A feature on NPR's Weekend Edition followed along with performances on syndicated radio shows World Café, Mountain Stage and others.
To celebrate 20 years since that eponymous debut hit the indie-folk world, the album has been lovingly remastered with the addition of two new bonus tracks, “Everybody Gets High” and “Looking Down” (Flora’s version).
WINGED VICTORY
Within his heart and his music, folksinger Willi Carlisle holds tight the conviction that love is bigger than hate, and no-one is expendable. Deemed "One of country music’s most important and unmistakable voices.” (PASTE), Carlisle’s music has always been a dance between spectacle and philosophy.
On his fourth studio (and first self-produced) album, Winged Victory, Carlisle returns with his signature blend of traditionally-rooted folk music and kaleidoscope of oddball characters to confer with his core tenets in more overt and provocative ways. Intent on creating art and a well-rounded life in a broken world, Carlisle directly addresses the hope that by understanding our collective suffering we might be free of it. Rather than a manifesto, the eleven songs on Winged Victory should be understood as a reflection. They revel in the beauty of tiny, monetarily-worthless moments and things, offering with them a consideration of our innate humanity.
EVERYBODY GETS HIGH (single)
The acclaimed Northampton, MA band Winterpills have announced the re-issue of their eponymous debut album. Winterpills (20th Anniversary Edition will be released on July 11th via Signature Sounds. Pre-save the 20th Anniversary Edition here. The album has been lovingly remastered with the addition of two new bonus tracks, “Everybody Gets High” and “Looking Down” (Flora’s version).
Fans can hear the recently remixed and remastered “Everybody Gets High” today here. The song was recorded during the session for the very first eponymous Winterpills album in 2005, but left off. When asked why, the band’s frontman Philip Price reflects, “To be honest, at the time, it seemed a bit too upbeat in sound compared to the other songs on the album. I felt like we had something really cohesive in the overall vibe, and adding this shiny little bauble threw it off, drew too much attention. That, and the fact that we already had a song on the album that dealt with someone with a drug problem ("Pills For Sara"), sealed the deal.”

WATERTOP
NEW ALBUM SEPT. 12 - PRE-ORDER NOW
Ali McGuirk has never been a church mouse. Her 2022 album, Til It’s Gone, was met with widespread acclaim and praised for its “earthy tenderness and smart introspection” (Boston Herald). She now returns with a new album, Watertop, that elevates her signature soulful and smoldering sound to new heights—this time, the production is richer, and the message is unflinching.
It’s hard to pinpoint the exact moment that led to the freedom in McGuirk’s songwriting on Watertop. Perhaps it was when she began treating social activism—and her care for others—as a spiritual practice. This transformation gave Watertopits raison d’etre, which comes at you quickly with the opening track, “Love Goes First.” With Watertop McGuirk takes a magnifying glass to the complexities of human and societal value, unraveling the meanings of care, empathy, love, and even greed. At first listen, her words aren't always what they seem. But the richness of McGuirk’s voice, the lucidity of her production, and the power of her delivery guide you to the truth.
BEESWING
"I’ve heard a lot of marvelous covers of 'Beeswing,' but never one done on the concertina, as we did. I wanted the record to include a song about romantic love that had ideas about freedom and victory. For me, the song turns on the line 'And they say her flower’s faded now / from hard weather and hard booze / but maybe that's the price you pay for the chains you refuse.' If you want to be untouchable by the regular world, maybe freedom is actually a really expensive thing, and maybe you have to try really hard to reach it.”
Tear My Stillhouse Down (Feat. Lindsay Lou)
New EP coming later this year!
"My Mom showed this song to me when I was really young and I've loved it ever since. I'm a lifelong fan of Gillian Welch and this has always been one of my favorite songs of hers. We've covered this song for years in the band and have found that audiences from coast to coast love it when we play it live. It's a popular jam song in the campgrounds at our favorite festivals. I think of this song as Appalachian rock and roll! " - AJ Lee
WHERE DOES ALL THE $ COME FROM?
"It is and always has been about the money. Whether you tout liberal ideologies or conservative, the bottom line question I want you to ask yourself today is: Where has all the money come from that has built your life?"
LOST DOG
It’s been a short time since the van-dwelling Olive Klug has fully pursued the life of a touring musician. Their DIY career has resulted in a huge following with over 20 million Spotify streams, nearly 200,000 TikTok followers, and 100,000+ Instagram followers. Self-described as “someone who floats on the breeze, letting the wind take me wherever I’m meant to be,” Klug’s sophomore album and label debut Lost Dog finds them contemplating this propensity for adventure no matter which avenue of love and loss it leads down.
Although still very young, Klug artfully addresses “aging as a neurodivergent free spirit” on the road with a compelling ability to voice honest emotions through captivating storytelling. Audiotree praised, ”equal parts vulnerable and powerful, ebullient and heartbreaking, reminding us how powerful the journey of music can be.” Olive Klug is a singular voice for the future of folk: honest, fearless, often unsure, but willing to try anyway.
Shaken By A Low Sound [Blood-Red Vinyl Re-Issue]
Crooked Still's 2006 album, Shaken By A Low Sound, pressed on limited-edition blood red vinyl. Featuring "Ecstasy" and "Little Sadie" as heard on the hit HBO show The Last of Us starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.
WINGIN’ IT (single)
"Wingin' It" is the second bonus track, and the final song we'll release within our little Exploding Star universe. And it feels like it was meant to be the final song for so many reasons. "
"The song oscillates between two main themes: One deals with the part of growing-up where the veil of your parent's superhero status gets lifted, and you begin to see their humanity and all the ways they faked it until they made it through parenthood. The other theme pays tribute to my dad's fun-loving free-spiritedness and spontaneity (like the way he'd sing along to songs he didn't really know the lyrics to)."
"And of all the songs on the album to feature my friends from Darlingside on, "Wingin It" was the perfect one. We toured together over a decade ago when we were just about starting our careers. To collaborate again, all these years later, on a song that revolves around time, change and chapters of life just adds so much meaning and a sense of full-circle-ness for me. Ever since they added (the most gorgeous) strings and harmonies, I'm unable to listen to it without tearing up. It's a treasure to me, and the perfect ending to the Exploding Star story." - Heather
TRAIN OF THOUGHT
"Written in Sisters, Oregon during a songwriting workshop that I led about writing a song inspired by the style of your favorite artist, “Train of Thought” is my take on Paul Simon’s wordy magical chaos. Breaking out of my usual literal storytelling lyrical style and breaking into the world of abstract metaphors, I let the listener into what it’s like to be neurodivergent, and how I’ve recently embraced this internal chaos instead of trying so hard to control and repress it. With lyrics like “and they try to button up my suit and tie in an attempt to hold me back but I’m this strange old conductor wearing pearls and a backwards baseball cap”, I highlight how my non traditional gender presentation is intrinsically linked to this neurodivergence and desire to resist societal pressures."
EXPLODING STAR
Heather Maloney’s new album, Exploding Star was never intended to be released. Written after the death of her father, the songs were the most vulnerable body of work she had ever created- meant and written only for her. The idea of releasing an album went against her instincts to keep this art close. Luckily for us, her family convinced her otherwise. Maloney was able to track for 2 days in her childhood home -– recording songs, backing vocals, the crickets in the yard and even percussion played directly on the walls and floors of the house itself. Maloney also played her father’s guitar and a keyboard that she had since she was a child. The result is raw and exquisitely personal, a collection of twelve songs urgently written at the time to help ease the “greatest heartbreak” of Maloney’s life but are thankfully and transcendentally now ours as well.
A SIDES/B SIDES
Featuring inspired collaborations with Pony Bradshaw, Caroline Spence, Nicholas Jamerson, Kaia Kater, Andrea Von Kampen, and Sam Burchfield. Baiman reflects,“The idea was to write and record two songs, a digital A Side and B Side, to create a kind of “short story” musical offering. The process of exploring what each collaboration holds in terms of songwriting and performance possibility has been endlessly inspiring,” For this series, Baiman recorded in Nashville with producer Clare Reynolds ("Lollies"), which she says is “another kind of collaboration in which I found a lot of musical growth.”
BUTCHER HOLLER: A TRIBUTE TO LORETTA LYNN
For the first time, Butcher Holler is now available on deluxe vinyl, remastered and expanded with three brand new tracks and artwork.
Butcher Holler is named for the little Kentucky town where Loretta Lynn was raised. On the tribute album of the same name, acclaimed singer-songwriter Eilen Jewell pays homage to Lynn’s humble roots and timeless, hard-hitting writing and performance style. For the first time, Butcher Holler is now available on vinyl, remastered and expanded with three brand new tracks. Jewell writes, “And so, a toast: to the woman with more banned songs than anyone can count; to that voice that reaches the very grain of the theater walls around her; to our national treasure. Gratitude is not enough, so I sing these songs for any who will listen.” The Boston Globe praised, “There's an irresistible snap to these songs- they're tight, deliciously twangy and rendered without orchestrated frills... [a] deft tribute."
